About Project

Four Lithuanian scientific and educational organizations:

  • Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy,
  • Institute of Mathematics and Informatics,
  • Lithuanian Scientific Society and
  • and Planetarium of Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy

started project "Science. Scientists. Society" in July 2006.

The main objectives of the project were development of modern means of dissemination of scientific and educational knowledge among society, science populiarisation, education of youth and adults in the area of science, innovations, information technologies, and development of additional modern interaction means among scientists, researchers, educators and other specialists.
We tried to reach these objectives in appealing and attractive ways, especially targeting school pupil of higher grades and students, while utilising modern internet technologies and combining them with live lectures and training courses, distance learning.
We developed internet portal "Mokslasplius - SciencePlus", leading to education and science world of Lithuania, seeking to inspire people to get interested in science, improve their knowledge of natural sciences.
Internet part of the project comprises of eleven sites that are integrated into the common portal http://mokslasplius.lt, aimed efficiently disseminate educational and scientific information, science news, publications of Lithuanian scientists, modules of multimedia training courses, interactive lectures, virtual computer simulations, and other valuable information related to education, science, innovations, information and communication technologies.

Parts of the portal are:

  • Interactive computer experiments (physics, mathematics, astronomy);
  • Amazing experiments of physics;
  • Interactive mathematics on the Web;
  • New branch of science - Physics of Risk and its computer simulations;
  • Science news;
  • Internet version of the newspaper "Scientific Lithuania”;
  • Resources of Lithuanian scientists: database of scientists, their publications, articles about prominent Lithuanian scientists;
  • Astronomy site with lots of interesting publications;
  • Planetarium: its events for pupil, information about universe and astronomy;
  • Multimedia courses for distance learning;
  • Expertises of localised software.

We are looking for possibilities to use experience we get continuing the project or starting new one with European partners, in the areas of e-Learning, Informal science education, Life-long education and training, Science in Society, Digital libraries and technology-enhanced learning, or similar.
