The proposed investigation will focus on the formation of spectral lines of barium and strontium in the atmospheres of metal-poor stars, with the aim to determine when, where and how these chemical elements were synthesized in the oldest Galactic stellar populations. For the first time, the formation of these lines will be studied by using realistic treatment of convection and non‐equilibrium radiative transfer in the modeling of stellar atmospheres. To achieve these goals, calculti􀆟ons of three‐dimensional hydrodynamic stellar atmosphere models; detailed synthesis of spectral lines; 3D‐1D NLTE abundance corrections that will be applied to study strontium and barium abundances in the most metal-poor stars; and more robust constraints on the chemical enrichment during the early Galactic evolution will be made.
