8 May at 15:00, at Great Physics Auditorium (VU Faculty of Physics, Saulėtekio av. 9) astronomer dr. Guillaume Guiglion will give a public lecture on the formation and evolution of the Galaxy „From dark skies to galactic insights”.

Dr. Guillaume Guiglion is an astrophysicist from the Center of Astrophysics at Heidelberg University. His field of study is the formation and evolution of our Galaxy by analyzing the properties and distribution of its stars and other components. This field is called Galactic Archeology. During the upcoming open lecture, he will describe modern techniques of Galactic research, including cutting-edge European Galactic spectroscopic surveys that will start soon in the Canary Islands and Chile. Observational astrophysics is very much dependent on the sites with low light pollution. Dr. Guiglion will address the need for Dark Skies for science, which is in danger even at the best sites in the world.
