Professional practice is a mandatory part of every Faculty of Physics undergraduate study programme done at the autumn semester of 4 year. The practice has to correspond to the study field of a particular study programme (either physics, electronic engineering or material technologies).
Suggested topics and supervisors are published by the Faculty of Physics until the 14th of September. However, students can choose practice place by their own. Professional practice can be done at scientific groups present in the Faculty of Physics, scientific groups of other faculties of Vilnius university (e.g. Center for Life Sciences, Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences), scientific groups of FTMC or other institutions whose activities correspond to the study field.
Until the beginning of October, students have to find a topic and supervisor for professional practice and sign a practice agreement if needed. Practice agreements are coordinated by the administration of the Faculty of Physics. Practice must begin at the beginning of October and finish until the beginning of the winter exam session (it is recommended to finish practice until Christmas). During the winter exam session, defence of the professional practice reports is done at the department defence commission. Professional practice is graded.
Choosing professional practice topic
At the beginning of the semester, students have to choose a professional practice topic from suggested ones at the faculty website (see below) and agree on it with an academic supervisor. Students are also free to suggest their own topics for supervisors. Students have to make the final agreement on the topic until the 14th of September. After the agreement, the academic supervisor must inform the administrator of a particular institute and provide the name and study programme of the student as well as the name of the agreed topic.

- Institute of Chemical Physics
- Laser Research Center
- Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology
- Institute of Applied Electrodynamics and Telecommunication
- Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics
If a student wishes to do scientific practice in another institution than the Faculty of Physics, he/she must agree upon a topic with a possible supervisor from that institution. Afterwards, the professional practce topic and place have to be agreed with the chair of the study programme committee (SPC) and student must receive a confirmation that a particular professional practice topic and place corresponds to the study field and level of the study programme. In these cases, the student has to inform the Dean's office about their professional practice topic and place via e-mail until 14th of September. A name of a student, study programme, professional practice topic, name of the supervisor, supervisor's institution and his/her contact information must be present in the e-mail. The student has also to indicate in the e-mail if his/her professional practice topic (at another institution) was confirmed by the chair of the SPC.
In order for students to do professional practice outside Vilnius University, a three-party agreement has to be signed. In this case, contact Dean's office via e-mail . The three-party agreement form can be found here.
