On Friday, 27 June at 3:00 pm, the Vilnius University community will traditionally gather to celebrate the end of the academic year with the “Finis anni academici” ceremony. The festive event will take place at the VU St John’s Church, where distinguished members of the academic community will be honoured.
During the ceremony, symbolic commemorative diplomas will be awarded to students and lecturers who suffered repression under totalitarian regimes and were expelled from VU.
The Rector of VU will present commemorative awards recognising outstanding scientific achievements to individual researchers and research teams. Rector’s acknowledgements will also be given to graduates whose studies and scholarly work have been recognised with Magna cum laude diplomas. For significant contributions to the university’s mission and substantial material support, the title of Vilnius University Patron will be bestowed.
At 5:00 pm, the official close of the academic year will be marked by the symbolic lowering of the VU flag. The flag will be raised again on 1 September, welcoming the community to the new academic year.
