The seminar will explore how the evolution of quantum systems in phase space can be interpreted using geometrical methods and Wigner phase space flow.

Seminar A geometric view of dynamics in quantum phase space

Seminar will take place on 10 July 14:00 val. NFTMC D401 aud.

Unlike in classical mechanics, quantum phase space distributions can take on negative values, which is a hallmark of quantum coherence. Moreover, due to singularities in the flow field, classical trajectories cannot be defined in quantum phase space. The speaker will demonstrate how these singularities are essential for the formation of quantum coherence and their significance in numerical studies. The seminar will also address how quantum dynamics suppresses the formation of fine structures, a phenomenon related to “viscosity” in quantum flow, which results in a characteristic polarization pattern in phase space. This effect may serve as a sensitive tool for probing quantum states.

The seminar will be held in English. The event is open to everyone – all are warmly welcome!

This seminar is part of the “Sunrise Valley Quantum Research Seminars” series. Coffee break is kindly sponsored by the Lithuanian Quantum Technologies Association (Q-Lithuania) and the Lithuanian Physical Society.
