On December 18, Vilnius University hosted a ceremonial festive evening - “Farewell to 2025.” During the event, distinguished members of the VU academic community were awarded, including representatives of the Faculty of Physics. Guests of the evening were welcomed by the Rector of Vilnius University, Prof. Dr Rimvydas Petrauskas, Chair of the Senate Prof. Dr Eglė Lastauskienė, and Chair of the Council Dr Marius Jurgilas.

For outstanding scientific achievements in 2025, the Rector's Science Award was presented to Prof. Mangirdas Malinauskas, Head of the Laser Nanophotonics Group at the Laser Research Center.

For outstanding academic achievements in 2025, the Rector's Science Award for Young Scientists was presented to Dr Carlos Viscasillas Vázquez, a researcher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy.

This autumn, the competition recognising significant contributions to open science was held once again. Open science is a movement that encompasses all scientific output and seeks to increase transparency, reproducibility, reliability and accessibility at all stages of scientific activity.
Dr Mindaugas Šarpis, researcher at the Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology, and leader of the CERN LHCb Vilnius group, was awarded for his significant contribution to open science in the category “Impact of Open Science.”

The Astrospectroscopy and Exoplanets Group at the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy was recognised for its significant contribution to open science in the category “Public Involvement in the Research Process.” The award was accepted by the group’s leader, Prof. Habil. Dr Gražina Tautvaišienė.
