Prof. Justinas Čeponkus, the Vice-Dean for Study Affairs of the Faculty of Physics, is encouraged to see that students are actively engaging in scientific research and that partners are helping to support young talent. “Students of the Faculty of Physics are actively involved in scientific research. It is encouraging that close collaboration with the faculty’s partners enables us to further motivate students and expose them to research that is relevant to industry. Like all researchers, our students are driven not only by a desire for knowledge but also by a vision of how that knowledge can be applied in the future to create new technologies,” he says.
Modern technology and science increasingly depend on powerful yet energy‑efficient light sources, many of which are built using semiconductor materials. A. Štaupienė’s research focuses on the optical properties and efficiency of quantum structures such as gallium arsenide bismide (GaAsBi)‑based quantum wells. “Here, photoluminescence characterization is used for a detailed emission analysis with the aim of optimizing the development of bismuth-based light sources and lasers,” she explains.
Bachelor’s student A. Strazdas is conducting research on the development of specialised coatings for optical components. These coatings are intended to enhance the performance of elements used in laser optics. “The main aim of my research is to create stable, ultraviolet‑compatible coatings that can withstand high‑power laser radiation at wavelengths of 100–300 nanometres. “I am also seeking to optimise total internal reflection in slab lasers by combining glancing‑angle deposition with ion‑beam sputtering technologies,” he explains.
“Optoman” representatives congratulate the scholarship winners. During the tour, they were introduced to the operations of the high‑tech company’s production facilities.
This scholarship encourages students of the Faculty of Physics to conduct research in the field of photonics and is awarded for one semester.
