Dr Julius Vengelis, researcher from the Laser Research Center at the Faculty of Physics of Vilnius University (VU), has been admitted to the Young Academy of Europe (YAE). The organization brings together young researchers from a range of scientific disciplines across Europe.

YAE members are selected through a competitive process based on an evaluation of their scientific achievements, international recognition, leadership, and potential to contribute to the academy's activities. Membership in the YAE is regarded as a significant international distinction for a young researcher and offers the opportunity to take an active part in shaping European science policy initiatives and developing international academic collaboration.
Associate Professor Julius Vengelis's research areas include laser physics, nonlinear optics, photonic crystals, and the development of laser systems. He is the head of the Young Academy of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Dr Vengelis actively contributes to strengthening the community of young researchers in Lithuania, develops international collaboration, represents young Lithuanian researchers at the European level, and fosters interest in the natural sciences among schoolchildren and university students.
His membership in the YAE will further strengthen international collaboration and create additional opportunities both to participate more actively in the work of Young Academy of Europe and to involve young Lithuanian researchers more fully in European science policy and science diplomacy initiatives.
Members are elected to a seven-year term by secret ballot of the YAE Selection Committee and the Board, based on their scientific achievements. At the end of their term, members of the academy become alumni.
Founded in 2012, the Young Academy of Europe aims to strengthen the role of young researchers in European science, promote international and interdisciplinary collaboration, contribute to the development of evidence-based science policy, and represent the interests of early- and mid-career researchers. The Academy actively participates in European science policy initiatives and collaborates with European institutions, national young academies, and international scientific organizations.
