Vilnius University and the Lithuanian laser community have lost a comrade, friend, and teacher. Professor Roaldas Gadonas of the VU Laser Research Center has embarked on his final journey.

RoaldasGadonasIn memoriam prof. Roaldas Gadonas (1954 - 2025)

Having begun his scientific career in the field of ultrafast laser spectroscopy, he was one of the leading researchers at the Laser Research Center for whom the laser was not an end in itself but a tool to reveal the processes that light induces in molecules, crystals, and living organisms. Through his efforts, the research on two-photon laser polymerization initiated at VU LTC developed into a highly productive research field within laser nanophotonics—a domain in which his students continue to work.

Colleagues will remember Roaldas as a luminary and an erudite, equally knowledgeable about the subtleties of fundamental physics and the techniques and technical challenges of laser experiments, always offering valuable insights. His students recall him as a teacher who always had a kind word and greeted them with a smile. Roaldas’ optimism and belief in the success of research inspired everyone not to give up and to work until success was finally achieved.

Rest in peace, Roaldas, and may the eternal laser light continue to shine upon you.
